Standards Compliance

EDI

EDI, or Electronic Data Interchange, is one of the most well-established standards for computer-to-computer communication for many different industries, including publishing.

In North America, VISTA provides EDI services in collaboration with UnitechEDI, a leader in developing Internet-based EDI and Electronic Commerce software solutions for the Book Publishing Industry. Unitech provides EDI system integration services, along with a communication and translation package that allows publishers to trade EDI documents with all major trading partners, including Pubnet, Ingram Book Group, Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com, Borders, Baker & Taylor, Chapters, Walden, and Books A Million. You can visit Unitech on the web at www.unitechedi.com.

In the UK and Europe, VISTA provides EDI services through Freeway Commerce Ltd., based in Preston, England. Freeway specializes in EDI and e-commerce integration and enabling applications. Freeway Commerce Ltd. was formed in 1998 as the vehicle for developing and marketing the next generation of XML/EDI/eCommerce solutions.  Freeway supports over 2000 clients trading with over 400 different trading partners. Visit Freeway on the web at www.freewaycommerce.co.uk.

Through these suppliers, VISTA supports EDI standards X12, TRADACOMS, and EDIFACT, as well as the newer XML standards. We continue to be actively involved in EDI standards committees such as BISAC, the standards-setting arm of the Book Industry Study Group in North America, and to work closely with our customers through the VISTA User Group to ensure that new messages are adopted and fine-tuned.
